A Helping Hand
Category:Natural Disasters, none of us are immune…
Hurricane Harvey: Lumberton, Texas (east of Houston, just north of Beaumont) under water. Thousands of square miles in urban, suburban, and rural areas completely flooded.
Hurricane Irma devasted the Caribbean in 2017 before slamming into the Florida Keys and traveling north inland causing wind and rain damage in several states.
St Thomas, Virgin Islands:
The island of Barbuda was completely destroyed:
The Florida Keys received a direct hit and millions of residents evacuated north to safety. In fact, Anne and I evacuated inland from the coast of Georgia and were blessed to return to our home intact.
But what happens when we return home to devastation and flood? We may be ready to clean up and rebuild, but can our community provide the basic supplies and resources to help us do that?
When choosing a product supplier for our independent online business, one of the questions we asked was: What do they Value?
We’re taught in business college that every business is in business to make a profit. We’re taught that money is the universal motivator.
We’ve found that money only motivates individuals to a point. It may be a different point for different people, but beyond that point, it no longer serves to move people into action. The whole truth is, most people seek a higher purpose in life beyond just getting rich.
Therefore, we partnered with a company that, like Anne and I, is about so much more than just the “bottom line”.
Shaklee Cares
Our Health & Wellness Product supplier, Shaklee, Inc., offers its own disaster relief program for victims of, and first responders to, natural disasters.
It may be a cliché when companies describe themselves as ‘family’. Yet, in the case of Independent Shaklee Distributors, world-wide, there is a camaraderie and sense of belonging to something bigger than ourselves. We are about Health and Wellness… yes, our own, but each other’s too.
Roger Barnett, chairman and CEO of Shaklee, has set a goal of being the first company to win the Nobel Peace Prize. This is a company endeavoring to be a significant force for positive social change in the world.
We’re not just here to make a buck, we’re here to lend a hand. We’re given two hands… one to reach up when we need help, and one to reach down to give someone else a lift. Shaklee has been offering that hand for many years now, beginning after hurricane Katrina:
